Never Wipe Your Ass with a Squirrel: A trail running, ultramarathon, and wilderness survival guide for weird folks Description
The Squirrel Wipe project is designed to get road runners, obstacle racers, hikers, and other outdoor enthusiasts on the trails. Robillard uses unorthodox methodology developed through endless self-experimentation to teach the basics of trail running, ultrarunning, and basic survival skills.
The book was written to closely approximate a drunken conversation at a local pub. Robillard routinely tackles sensitive topics like the pros and cons of genital shaving, methods to get rid of annoying partners, and the art of wilderness defecation. This book breaks the mold of the stuffy, academic approach many books take when covering the sport.

This book touches on a bit of everything running related, even stuff that most running books think are too gross or too basic to cover. I love the book title, but don't expect the book innards to be quite so decisive. The author says that the book is not about him, that it is about the reader, and I have to say that whether you agree or disagree with his take on a topic he does make you think about your choices and how you go about making them.

This book had many helpful hints for ultrarunners while still being entertaining to read. I like to know the nitty gritty stuff of it, not just the "transcend the pain and keep going til you reach your magical distance" stuff. Good tips on nutrition (I eat Pop-Tarts now during my long runs to avoid getting gel sick!) and hydration. I also liked the practical training tips, such as what is the best clothing to wear, avoiding heat stress, etc. Good book, may be a little little offensive to those with more delicate sensibilities- I found it to be pretty funny.
