365 Free Motion Quilting Designs Description
About the Author
It was the burning desire to create a quilt for her wedding that drove Leah Day to finally leap into quilting with both feet in 2005. While she'd wanted to learn for most of her life, quilting had always been too difficult a hobby to master on her own. Finally at the age of 21, she began actively taking classes and joined a local guild in order to gain the necessary skills. In 2007 with the birth of her son, Leah began a series of goddess quilts and started focusing on honing her free motion quilting skills. By 2009, Leah was frustrated with the limited designs and ideas for free motion filler designs, so she created a free, online blog called The Free Motion Quilting Project to share her new designs with the world. This blog then lead to a successful online quilt store at DayStyleDesigns.com. Leah is the author of three books featuring her free motion filler designs: 365 Free Motion Quilting Designs, From Daisy to Paisley, a book featuring 50 beginner designs, and From Feathers to Flames, a book featuring 60 intermediate level designs.

This book goes beyond my wildest expectations...the only thing I can compare it to is an iPad: you don't realize how much you needed it until you have it.
I've been following Leah Day's project/blog for a long time and wasn't sure if I really "needed" this book since everything she posts is available for free. And it was expensive, much more than I recalled spending on a book before. But I really wanted to support her because she has given so much of herself and her talents to our quilting community so freely and unselfishly - and continues to do so with no end in sight! So when she posted in her weekly newsletter (almost as an afterthought) that amazon had decreased the book price, after much back and forth with myself, knowing that quilting is so much more than a passing fancy to me, I decided to make the plunge.
Well, the book arrived today ~ and I am sooo happy I bought it!!!! The book, while softcover, is sturdy, well-bound with a tight spine, and the photographs of each design are large, clear, delightful, gorgeous - and helpful! The pages are approx. 8-1/2" x 11" (unmeasured) and have either 1 large design block (color) photo or 2 slightly smaller design block (color) photos per page. Aside from the photo(s), each page has the title and Project Day # ( sequential). That it is, nothing else. Which is perfect because it doesn't detract from the quilting, which is the purpose of the book :) I can see the intricate details Leah stitched in each block! Holding this 252-page book in my hands, flipping through the pages, it provides me with what no computer screen will ever be able to - the up close, in your face details that I, as a lifelong sewist and experienced quilter (including FMQ) love & adore!!! It is inspiring as I think of the projects to be quilted!
